Carl Brakman, LCSW, has a master’s degree in social work from Jane Addams Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Illinois after receiving his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Illinois. He has 40 years’ experience evaluating, diagnosing, and counseling individuals. Carl has evaluated thousands of individuals suffering from a range of psychiatric and substance use disorders in hospital emergency departments. In this capacity, he trained and worked with resident psychiatrists on the crisis intervention team. Carl was the owner and clinical director of a State of Illinois DUI facility where he provided education and counseling for individuals convicted of driving under the influence.
As a behavior therapist in special education, Carl also has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults with a range of academic, behavior and developmental problems. He has served as a consultant to classroom teachers and support staff and as a provider of counseling services to students and their families.
As a counselor and psychotherapist, Carl strives to bring a holistic understanding to the complex cognitive, behavioral, medical, and psychiatric diagnoses of these individuals. Carl also has a particular expertise working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum, Substance Abuse, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, School Consultation, Couples and Family Therapy and counseling older individuals with chronic medical problems.
